Campus Wayfinding - Monuments and Badges
Wayfinding is critical to ensure students, faculty, and staff have a positive college experience.
The project will provide 15'-tall, freestanding monument signs at each building. Additionally, secondary wall mounted signs that will be install facing the nearest parking lot. The color of the signs is programmable to match special events on campus or match the new exterior color of the buildings.
Construction is projected for completion in March 2021.

LED Controller training with District was carried out. All signs are programmed and operational as planned.

Past Month’s Accomplishments: A formal punchlist was conducted. A revised repair plan was drafted and approved. An LED program was finalized with the District.
Next Month’s Milestones: Offsite repair work will commence. Signs will be removed per the prescribed plan. Installation of LED controllers inside signs and related wiring inside campus electrical rooms will be completed.
January 2022
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Installation of monument signs was completed. The formal punch list was conducted, and a repair plan was drafted to address finish and acrylic installation inconsistencies. The LED Program was finalized with the District.
Next Month’s Milestones: Punch list work and removal and sign skins and acrylic (offsite) will begin. Sign will be removed per the prescribed plan. Installation of LED controllers inside signs and related wiring inside campus electrical rooms will be completed.
December 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: A punch list walk with the contractor was performed. A new lead project manager was assigned by the vendor to assist with work not meeting quality expectations.
Next Month’s Milestones: Monument sign installation, punch list repairs and final programming will be completed.
November 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Installation of wall badge signage was completed and monument sign installation is underway. Installations at VPA plaza, Gullo I and Gullo II have been completed. Shop fabrication is nearing completion. Pre-planning is underway for signage LED programming.
Next Month’s Milestones: Completion of monument sign installation, punch list repairs and final programming is expected. Demonstration of preliminary LED programming has been conducted, with additional programming options under review.
October 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Installation of wall badge signage is underway. VPA A, VPA B, Gullo, Fitness Center, Gymnasium and LETC are complete including related restoration to surrounding areas. Fabrication of monument signage is underway, completion schedule for 10/29/21. Deliveries to site Begin immediately after fabrication, followed by installation. Preplanning underway for signage programming.
Next Month’s Milestones: Completion of wall badge sign installation and commencement of monument installation is expected. Programming schedule will be completed followed by demonstrations.
September 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Site progress has been reinstated with a new contractor team. A new fabrication subcontractor has been approved. The contractor has committed to completing the project with a new schedule and extended completion date. Fabrication is in progress and is being expedited for completion by the end of October.
Next Month’s Milestones: Installation of the initial first few signs will begin and occur throughout the month. Restoration work for interior and exterior surfaces is being coordinated to occur with installation to minimize the impact to the Campus. Programming options and planning will be reviewed and coordinated with the District.
August 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Site progress has been reinstated with a new contractor team. A new fabrication subcontractor has been approved. Contractors have committed to completing the project. Minimal progress has begun, correcting deficiencies, providing materials, and updating the schedule.
Next Month’s Milestones: Shop fabrication to commence with partial delivery of signs scheduled for mid-October. Installation and restoration schedule will be coordinated to reduce impact to the campus.
July 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Site progress has been stopped due to the contractor abandoning the site. A default notice has been issued by the district. No work has progressed.
Next Month’s Milestones: District is seeking to potentially terminate the signage contractor due to inability to meet commitments and satisfy outstanding contractual requirements necessary and complete certification for DSA required Inspections.
June 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Monument sign foundations were completed.
Next Month’s Milestones: The contractor will satisfy outstanding contractual document requirements necessary and complete certification for DSA required inspection to begin shop fabrication of signs.
May 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Investigative review of building wall attachment was performed. Placement of pre-cast concrete bases was set at monument signs. A formal delay notice was issued to the contractor for non-performance related to the manufacturing of the signs.
Next Month’s Milestones: Anticipated completion of sign fabrication and structural wall attachment. Installation of four sign foundations in the North Fire Lane area.
April 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: The installation of sign foundation (borings), steel support post installation, and concrete platforms for the signs was completed. A formal delay notice was issued to the contractor for non-performance related to the manufacturing of the signs.
Next Month’s Milestones: Anticipated completion of sign fabrication, structural wall attachment. Installation of four sign foundations in the North Fire Lane area.
March 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Completion of all electrical & data rough-in and site restoration. Commencement of sign foundation (borings).
Next Month’s Milestones: Completion of sign foundation borings and structural installation. Shop fabrication underway for signage contractor.
February 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Completion of electrical & data rough-in and trench repair work at Fitness Center, Gullo & Gullo 2. DSA approval for signs now complete.
Next Month’s Milestones: Completion of VPA Plaza electrical and data work, restoration of site by Electrical contractor. Commencement of foundations for Monument signage. Mockup #2 review of substitution LED fixtures proposed by sign contractor.
January 2021
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Completion of electrical & data rough in and trench repair work at Fitness Center, MS3, PE/Gymnasium areas. Mockup and lighting demonstration for signs conducted. Redlines drawings received from DSA, correction underway.
Next Month’s Milestones: DSA approval anticipated. Completion of Gullo and VPA Plaza electrical and data work. DSA back check / approval of sign shop drawings anticipated.
December 2020

October 2020
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Completed Auto Tech, LETC, and Cedro buildings power and data rough-ins. Restored hardscape to existing conditions.
Next Month’s Milestones: Continued power and data rough-in work at interior and exterior locations at Sequoia, Student Services, Admin & Records and Acacia. It is required to resubmit drawings to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) in December.
September 2020
Past Month’s Accomplishments: Complete the site survey of existing conditions in coordination with planned sign locations. Power and data rough-in work at interior and exterior locations for Sequoia, Auto Tech and Cedro continued.
Next Month’s Milestones: Continue power and data rough-ins, commencement of monument sign foundation layout and site preparation. Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval anticipated between late October and mid-November.
